The "I Am" Principle: Shaping Your Reality
Our reality is shaped by our subconscious mind. When we're born, our subconscious is empty, a 'blank slate,' as the ancient Greeks referred to it, Tabula Rasa. As we experience the world, we begin to take on an identity, a belief of who we are created from our experiences. For example, as adults, people often refer to who they are by what they do for a living, but that isn't really who they are; it's just what they do in exchange for money.
The world around us is energy, waves of potential waiting to snap into place. They are snapped into place by our consciousness. Much like a video game, you only see the scene you're in; you don't see the entire game layout. Who we believe we are shapes how those waves of potential snap into place. So, to create the life you want, you first have to decide who you want to be. Just that change—"I am"—and the world begins to change with you.
A simple example of this is someone who believes they are unlucky (I am unlucky) will avoid taking chances, whereas believing they are lucky (I am lucky) will take chances where that luck manifests.
To start changing your 'I am's,' you need to discover who you think you are in every aspect of your life. You have to be honest with yourself, and nobody else sees this list. Then go down each one and see whether that's who you want to be. From this, you can start to act like and believe that you are this new concept of yourself, and you'll be amazed at how quickly you'll start to see changes in your life.
Many people don't take these steps because they believe that the world is in control of them and they have no say in the matter. However, if you continue to live your life in your current "I am," you will just get the same as before. The proof is in the pudding, as they say, and only by taking these steps can you see for yourself the power you truly have. Empirical evidence, the seeing for yourself, outweighs any negative preconceptions you may have about this method.
It's important to understand this as working with spirits and magic also uses your subconscious mind, and that is where your true beliefs about yourself and, in essence, what you deserve are held. There are inner battles going on in people's minds; the conscious desire and the subconscious beliefs can fight one another. By aligning your subconscious and conscious minds, they work in tandem with one another.
The first step is identifying who you see yourself as, your self-image. You will be a different "I am" in different circumstances and with different people. Become aware of who you are in those different circumstances. For example, you may be a fun-loving, outgoing person with friends but a quiet, unassuming person at work, or even vice versa. This is a journey of self-discovery, and once you know who you are, you can then decide who you want to be, and that reality will manifest for you.
